A 18 Years Old Birthday Photoshoot at Spike Island, Widnes
Turning 18 is a milestone worth celebrating, and what better way to capture this special moment than with a dedicated birthday photoshoot? On the 12th of February 2025, I photographed a beautiful and joyful girl at Spike Island in Widnes, right by the River Mersey.
A Cold but Joyful Session
Despite the chilly weather, the birthday girl’s energy and positivity shone through. She was all smiles throughout the session, embracing the moment with so much grace. Her parents had arranged this shoot to celebrate her transition into adulthood, and it was clear how much love and excitement surrounded the day.
Outfit Changes & Styling
For the first part of the shoot, she kept it chic and classic with a grey top and black skirt—an effortless, stylish look that blended beautifully with the natural setting. As the session progressed, she changed into a stunning pink gown, adding a touch of elegance and making for some truly magical portraits.
Props & Creative Touches
To make the session more personal, we incorporated several props:
• A book, which added a thoughtful and timeless element to the shoot
• Large “1” and “8” balloon numbers to highlight the special milestone
• Bouquet of flowers, bringing a soft, celebratory feel to the images
Natural & Artificial Light Balance
We started the session using natural light, capturing the glow of the late afternoon. As the evening set in, I introduced continuous lighting to maintain the warmth and clarity of the portraits. The mix of natural and artificial light created a dynamic range of images, each with its own mood and depth.
This birthday photoshoot was a joy to capture, not just because of the beautiful setting and thoughtful details, but because of the energy and personality the birthday girl brought to it. She braved the cold effortlessly, and her confidence and happiness truly made the photos shine.
